Picking up on the metaphor of running the race. Paul uses the metaphor of hard work of an athlete, specially a runner. Each week, tying one of the aspects of being a serious runner with the qualities of being follower of Jesus.
2 Timothy is a pastoral letter, which Paul writes while he is imprisoned in Rome. Paul is awaiting trial, he believes this time he will not be acquitted. This personal letter written to Timothy as a last will testament. Paul leaves final instructions to Timothy in leading the church.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) This is the key verse of the letter.
